Texting can be a Problem!

Texting can be a Problem

by Rebecca Lomis-Stephan

Yes, we all tend to give in time to time with our teens. Cell phones are one of those things. My daughters have one and my older daughter has text messaged over 10,000 times in a matter of 2 weeks What is the problem with this? Well, they become less a part of the family. They are in their room more often of the time and they waste so much time on the phone that by the article in the news section of our site stated that they are texting until the wee hours of the morning.

Solution: Put restrictions on it! I now have had to restrict my daughter from 12 am to 7 am and this will change when school comes. She will not have the days either for they do text in class. Also, having your teen hand over the phone at the time you request is important.

Another thing to worry about is what they are saying to each other. My daughter has had a boy wanting to have sex with her and when she said no he made her life a living you know what. People threaten our children on these things along with Myspace, Face book and all other electronic communicators. My daughter is now faced with having to start her first day of school in 8th grade, knowing that people want to beet her up because she does not do what they want.

Less communication is better in this area. What happen to having friends over or meeting parents? Seems to be gone if you let it. Yes, my daughter does not like me half of the time but I care for her safety and I want her to make better decisions.

Remember that YOU are the parent and the child does not pay the phone bill or the internet bill. Watch what your children are doing. My daughter is not allowed to erase anything until I look at it. This is not to invade her privacy but to make sure she is safe.

Here are some common Text messaging terms used by our children: Leet speak

ADHD in Boys

10 Aug

My son ia 7 and he has ADHD. My husband has it s well along with my 11 year-old daughter. ADHD is common and in boys it is so much easier to diagnos. He is such a wiggle worm and cannot seem to sit still for nothing. I had him on Concerta which was great but took him off for the Summer.

School is approaching quickly so we now will put him back on. My belief is that if they are failing in school or having major social problems they you should look into Concerta through your Doctor. My son excells when he is on it in school. He is very bright naturally but this helps him focus.

Any thoughts?
